It is getting to a bit of a pleasant routine that would normally happen on a Monday morning, except it’s a day late this week. Having made a cup of tea and fed the cat, I come back upstairs and retreive Gilbert’s book from the office. I settle down to read the next letter from Gilbert White, and like I have on other occasions, I don’t always get what he’s saying (18th century language can be a bit obscure sometimes) so I might have a brief exchange with ChatGPT, even to the point of putting some thoughts as to the content of the next letter to Steve, then it’s time to get up.
This morning, I had promised the Gosport Shed Membership Secretary that I would go to the shed and help with a job on the database. Not a difficult task, just one of correlating written records with what’s in the database. I spent about two hours on the job, and probably got about a quarter of it done. I’ve said i’d have another go at it on Friday, if he wants me to. I think he was happy with what I’d done (it meant he could go to singing practice with the shed choir).
I caught the bus into town and got off at Creek Road (the Morrison’s stop) so that I could have a walk around the Cockle Ponds to see what was going on. Would there be jellyfish? There were a couple of members of the Model Yachting Club, with their Laser Class Models, having a practice session, but it looked like they were wrapping up as I arrived. I walked around the large pond, no sign of the jellyfish. I sat in the seat and looked at stuff on the phone for about 15 minutes when Elayne called me.
Elayne was in the Craft Cafe wondering where I was, she had earlier said she wasn’t going to meet me, so I was a bit surprised and hurried off to meet up with her. We had a nice chat with Hannah, one of the girls who runs the cafe, and had something to eat.
Elayne wanted to do the charity shops, so we dawdled and had a browse and then caught the bus home.
This evening was Camera Club time. It was supposed to be the last PDI (Projected Digital Image) competition, but that has been put off for a week as the club was involved in what is called the Deltic competition (Don’t know why it is called that, will try and find out) . It’s a three-way between Gosport, Fareham & Selsey. Tonight the competition was being held in the Portchester Parish Hall. Just for fun, I went along.
The competition comprises each club submitting 10 prints and 10 PDIs (total 30 of each) judged by an independent judge. Gosport didn’t win; we came second overall, but what does that mean when there are only one and a half points between first and third?
Either way, it was the end of a very pleasant day.
