What stands out to you about the picture? is it the top of the spinaker missing in the low cloud base? Or, is it the bird?
I’d read somewhere that getting a bird into your picture nearly always improves it. Is that the case here? I have to be honest and say that this was just a grab shot. I hadn’t even noticed that the bird was moving in to the scene. I’m still making up my mind about it. In some respects I think the bird adds a contrasting balance to the Spinaker.
I’ve quite often seen the Spinaker in this state. There have been times when the fog has been so thick that the whole tower has been completely obscured. Conversely, on occasion I have seen the bottom of the tower obscured, and the top visible as here;

What is really interesting in situations like this where there is a thick fogbank lying over the water, the harbour authorities resort to foghorns – of course, not all vessels have AIS (Automatic Identification System), especially the small ones (interestingly, it seems that a lot of the small commercial fishing boats do have AIS).
I wasn’t in town for long. Really just meeting up with Elayne after her stint in the shop, and going for a bit of lunch, then home. Quite a lazy and relaxing day really.
