1909 – On the Street, at the Camera Club

Let’s get the Camera Club out of the way first; Tonights competition was an open for our group (no set topic) The header picture was one I took at the market in Salisbury when we went as the club last month.

Whilst I didn’t get an award, I did get a 9/10 which I am quite happy with. It appears that tonights judge is involved in how these products are managed and so quite liked the picture. That’s OK, I’m happy with the decision.

Elayne picked up her certificate for 1st from the previous competition.

I’ll explain why I’m giving you two pictures tonight;

Today, I took my bigger camera out with the new lens I bought (a 35mm f1.8 primary if you want the technical details). I bought it to do street photography, which is definitely a particular interest of mine, and I was determined to do some (street photography).

I took a picture of this door. Nothing unusual about it, a perfectly normal door, but looking at it now, I think it needs straightening as it’s slightly crooked (the picture, not the door). A minor technical matter, very easily resolved.

Importantly, I realised 1. That I’ve chopped off an important part of the dor – what’s above it. I can only correct that by re-taking the picture. But 2. Even more importantly, I have realised there is something critical missing. I really need a person to be walking in front of the door, preferably with a blue, green or yellow coat (would a red coat be too much of a clash?)

Now, in this case, I am not at all averse to going back to the door and finding a person with the right coloured clothing (I guess it doesn’t have to be a coat, but it is cold at the moment) and asking if they would help me by walking past the door so I can take their picture.

Now, the only other decision, should I find somebody who doesn’t think I either weird (in joke) or bonkers with the correct apparel, who’s prepared to walk past it a few times whilst I get a decent shot, I am considering two scenarios;

  • They walk past like they are on their way to work, completely ignoring me.
  • As they walk past, they look at me, and give me a glaring look “Why are you taking my picture” kind of thing.

Quite excited about the propsect of trying that.

I just want to write, but I prefer to stay away from controversial topics like politics. I am happy to confess that at the moment, I am writing for me. If you enjoy my writings, and I hope you do then that is all the better.
