Two images taken with two different cameras, both at the extreme ends of their zoom ranges. The difference in quality is pretty obvious, and there may have been a little bit of camera shake in the lower image, but I don’t think the test (which really isn’t scientific in its conduct) is too unfair. What is clear is that there is a distinct difference in quality.
One of the things that this tells me is that I really need to think about the context in which I use a particular camera. One thing that I will say is that I do try to avoid shooting at the extreme end of the zoom range, whether the image is for personal use or competition use, unless the resulting image is intentionally of a low quality – a rare, but not impossible scenario.
Other things this tells me where ever possible, get closer to the subject, and use the right camera for the scene. I’ll have to seriously bear that in mind.
OK, very close to midnight now, and I want to get this published.
