With Elayne away, in London & the house jobs done, I have time to do what I want. Only snag is – what do I want to do? I thought i might go over to Portsmouth, get on the next bus to depart and take it to the end, wherever that might be (Probably Fareham, so I’d need to be a bit choosy. I didn’t do that.
I walked down to the bus interchange and make a decision between the next ferry, or a bus – whichever came next. As it happens, an E2 to Fareham when I got there I thought I might just as well go on to Portsmouth and do my usual loop, I only had a few minutes to wait for an X4 – the fast bus.
As usual, upon arrival, I headed for Waterstones. I like having a good browse – the last time I was there, they had a copy of Creative Writing for Dummies. There’s a section in the book that covers non-fiction – I am very tempted to buy it. Instead there was a book – The Complete creative writing course, which I did buy.
The only problem is, that the book is dedicated to fiction, and my brain was screaming “don’t buy this book” but I did. There is a bit of background. In January, I will be joining U3A. My local branch doesn’t have a creative writing group. I’ll give it a couple of months to test the ground, and then suggest starting one. I thought I would try and adapt the exercises to non-fiction, but also, I watched a YouTube episode which said that even for non-fiction, the techniques of fiction could still be applied. I may still get the other book.
Oh yes, I sometimes have thoughts about books when I’m in a bookshop (are you really surprised)? I was able to use the journal app on my phone to get them jotted down.
A quick bus to the Hard, the ferry over, and a Bus to the stop near home. It turned out to be a really nice day.
